Physiotherapy Exercises

Physiotherapy exercises are many and varied, depending on what you want to achieve. However, they all have one thing in common; they aim to regain an acceptable degree of movement in the limbs and joints of the person who is in need of the physiotherapy exercises.

Physiotherapy distinguishes itself from other medical treatments by the fact that it doesn't use drugs. It is a therapy that uses physical contact and manipulation to increase the available movement in joints and limbs. Physiotherapy exercises are nearly always an integral part of the discipline and treatment offered.

Common physiotherapy exercises are those used for lower back pain. This type of injury is responsible for countless days off work by thousands of people every year. It's hard to diagnose and often the patient's word is all there is to go by. Massage is often used for lower back pain and with good effect too.

Exercises for the back are known as flexion exercises. Their intention is to strengthen the mid section of the back so that it can better support the upper back One example is the knee raised up to the chest repetitively. Walking is a good aerobic exercise for lower back pain. It can also serve to prevent it in the first place.

Physiotherapy exercises are used for all types of physical problems. There are three basic types of condition that will affect the kind of physiotherapy exercises a patient will be able to do. The least severe is a condition where there is stiffness, but little or no pain. This kind of condition can tolerate the greatest degree of exercise.

If the condition is stiff with some pain then care is required to avoid further pain and possible irritation of the condition. Increasing pain while doing exercises in this category is a sign that it may be time to ease off or stop altogether. The third condition is one where there is a high degree of both pain and stiffness. This is the most restricted condition and considerable care is required to prevent it getting worse.

It's always important to pay close attention to the feedback your body gives you. After doing any physiotherapy exercises take a moment to assess how you feel. If there is a lot of pain and it last longer than about ten minutes, then perhaps you have gone too far with the exercises. Rest for a while before continuing and certainly until the pain subsides.

It's really a bit of a Goldilocks strategy: not too little and not too much, but just right. If after taking physiotherapy exercises you feel nothing whatsoever, no pain or fatigue, then it's possible that you are doing no good and the exercises are having no effect.

If, however, there is a slight but quite bearable discomfort and it quickly wears off leaving you feeling fine, then that is probably the right level of physiotherapy exercises for your condition. Physiotherapy exercises are not an exact science. They require regular assessment and adjustment, depending on whatever result is being experienced.

Physiotherapy Treatment Tip #1

People with injuries tend to consult medical doctors and usually demand medication to alleviate pain. Though it brings temporary relief, the palliative effects of medicine only deals with the symptoms rather than the cause of the pain and would usually have addictive side effects. Therein lays the opportunity for physiotherapy. The intake of oral medications may be avoided is there are alternative ways of dealing with pain.

Physiotherapy Treatment Tip #2

Patients who are suffering from various muscular disorders, minor or major injuries resulting to some difficulty in movements and immobility as well as other conditions associated with pain may just benefit from myotheraphy. Assortments of methods are used to deal with pain with the goal of alleviating it or achieve its total elimination. In this type of physiotherapy, massage, electrical nerve stimulation, movement exercise, acupuncture, meditation and the application of hot or cold compress are some examples of the techniques which are being employed in treating a wide range of complaints.

Physiotherapy Treatment Tip #3

Physiotherapists must also work in tandem with the parents to ensure a strong support system. Parents need to urge their kids to be more mobile. They also have to be made aware of all that is entailed in the treatment procedure. They also have to understand fully that the development in their child’s condition will greatly depend on them.
